Before or even after the shipbuilding contract has been closed, we take the design to level of detail that the involved authorities, as classification authorities, flag states or others can give their approval.
The final optimization of the vessel performance is carried out during the Basic Design stage. By careful optimisation with state-of-the-art tools, we can minimize needed propulsion power while maintaining good manoeuvring and seakeeping characteristics. With hundreds of model-tested vessels as a reference and the cutting-edge RANS CFD solver STAR-CCM+ as a tool, we optimise vessels to the highest efficiency level. In addition to CFD simulations, we carry out multiple model test a year in close cooperation with ship test basins from all over Europe. The usage of CFD tools in early design stages and the developed experiences with model basins are the key tool to most efficient ship hull for your project.
Especially in inland and costal areas it is mandatory to decrease the draft as far as possible. For this need we have a highly skilled team of structural experts who are carrying out FEM simulations with state-of-the-art tools for global and local structural investigations to ensure the structural integrity of the vessels and its components and to reduce the steel weight in areas with low stress levels. On inland cargo vessels theses assessments have given our clients the capabilities to increase the payload of the vessel by >15% on the same draught. Our structural Basic Design models are used to create FEM models for our simulations. This way we can investigate structural changes very fast and the documentation is already updated due to the connection to the structural model.
